I was reading in Proverbs 24, and it says, “If you fail under pressure, your strength is not very great.” My immediate thought was...that’s not very encouraging, but in all reality, if life is easy, it’s not hard to be strong. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a strong, young woman. When God reveals his plan to turn her world upside down, she responds with grace. She agrees to be the Lord’s servant which involves ruining her reputation and possibly destroying her relationship with her fiance. Scandal and fornication...maybe even prostitution are how she could be marked. “Mary responded, ‘I am the Lord’s servant, and I am willing to accept whatever he wants. May everything you have said come true.’ And then the angel left.” Before the angel left, I think I would have asked if the angel could explain this plan to my parents and my fiance, but she is strong. Can you say today...I am willing to accept whatever God wants? (Yikes!) We teach our children that Christmas isn’t about “getting”, and the life of a believer isn’t all about “getting” either. Let’s be willing to live God’s plan even when it isn't comfortable or easy.
