Happy December 1st! I love the month of December, but the list of all I want to accomplish can be a little overwhelming. I am trying to enjoy the Christmas season and focus on the amazing pure love of God, but there are still a crazy amount of things to do. Most of the items on my list I enjoy doing...it's just that I try to do them all in 25 days. So I found a verse in Psalm 101 that I love, and I'm going to write it out and put it on my refrigerator. "I'm doing the very best I can, and I'm doing it at home, where it counts." (The Message) Such a great simple thought. I don't think this means that my Christmas cookies need to be beautiful and taste good, or that I need to decorate my house like Martha Stewart. I believe I am to do my best to make my home a place that shows my best effort in how it works...loving, safe (not too crazy), comfortable, and outwardly focused. At home we tend to let things go, and be "ourselves". If we aren't putting out our best effort though, we may treat our family poorly because it's just family. It might be easier to put our best effort into decorating a tree and cookies than in working at loving, peaceful relationships. Where do you tend to get off track? Is it all the stress piling up? Or is it trying to have everything look too perfect for Christmas? Let's commit to do our best at home for our family because that would make a beautiful Christmas.
