Enjoying...

The Christmas lights are still on in my home, but the 2015 Christmas has come and gone. This morning we dropped my parents off at the airport (sigh), and now the holiday is coming to a close. Because of all the excitement, busyness, and joy of the holiday, it can be a let down when it's done. January doesn't have the same ring to it as December, and summer vacation is months away. In Ecclesiastes God gives us a pep talk...rather key information on how to look at life (especially when it isn't a time of celebration). "Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat well, drink a good glass of wine, and enjoy their work-whatever they do under the sun-for however long God lets them live. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life-that is indeed a gift from God. People who do this rarely look with sorrow on the past, for God has given them reasons for joy." (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20) The phrase to "enjoy their work-whatever they do" is an attitude changing idea. Each season of life has it's own work (paid and unpaid) that can be boring and not fulfilling, but if that work can't be changed, figure out a way to enjoy it. I know that's easier said than done, but God gives us a blessing we don't want to miss if we enjoy our work and accept our life. Yes, it's good to change what needs to be fixed, but much of life needs to be embraced. What's the benefit? People who do this rarely look with sorrow on the past, for God has given them reasons for joy. (I love that!) So the takeaway for this January...work hard and enjoy YOUR life because God will give you joy.
