Life never stands still. Once we figure out a sleep cycle for a baby they grow. When we understand an eating pattern for a toddler, they suddenly change. After we've learned to patiently walk through a trying behavior with a child step by step, it disappears. Everyone changes. Seasons in parenting, seasons in work, seasons in marriage, and seasons in our aging all change. When we realize the change, it may leave us wondering what's next. Where do we fit in life? What meaningful work is next? When we wake up to a significant change, we need a plan. I have been struggling with this the past few months as my life is changing and will continue to significantly in the next couple years. What's next?  In Joshua 22 the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had accomplished their mission, and Joshua told them it was time for them to go home. I think that probably sounded great to them...but was there a feeling of sadness as they had to come to the realization that they weren't needed anymore? Fighting, defending, and protecting gives the feeling of accomplishment. Joshua may have been concerned for them as he says to go home and...
1. Be VERY careful to keep the commandments and the law
2. Love the Lord your God
3. Walk in His ways
4. Obey His commands
5. Hold fast to him and serve him with all your heart and all your soul
Joshua has given a similar talk before, but it's interesting to me that Joshua gives them this talk as the season in their life changes. As changes come, we should review these steps also.
