I love Christmas! Tonight I'm alone...well kids are in bed, but I still have Christmas music on with candles, and I'm enjoying the tree and lights. The anticipation of my children, and their desire to give (and of course receive!)is heart-warming. I know Christmas brings different feelings for everyone, and sometimes the past disappointment and loss overshadow the Christmas season. The real heart of Christmas though is God's love. God loves us! Paul writes about God's love in Romans, and he says that nothing can separate us from God's love. Nothing. Because we all have our list of "why God", Paul gives us a list. Even if we have trouble and calamity, we can know God loves us. If we are persecuted, hungry, cold, in danger, or threatened with death, God loves us. The verses go on to say: nothing can separate us from God's love. Death can't. Life can't. Fears can't. Worries can't. Our location can't. "Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God..." (Romans 8:35-39)
God's love was sending His only Son for us as a baby. We celebrate that so many ways this month, but I think, it's easy to miss real love. The love that is always here for us. We pull away, but God never does. He loves you. He loves me.
