I love fresh starts and the beginning of the new year. I have my new planner, and it looks so much better than the old one. Nothing is falling out of it, and it isn't ripped. I'm trying to reorganize for the new year as I put my Christmas decorations away. I'm ready to get back on track after the vacation schedule.
Cailee and I are reading the Anne of Green Gables book together, and we read tonight were Anne says, "I'm glad tomorrow doesn't have any mistakes". That is probably one of the most encouraging aspects of the new year. We haven't made any mistakes. None of us know what 2013 holds. Each year has its fair share of bumps and bruises. There are always great days and disappointing days. James 1:2-4 says, "Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything."
So if we were asked, "Would you like to have a strong character?" We would probably say...yes! But to sign-up for a strong character we might have to endure some trouble. We might have to be tested. As we begin this new year, let's plan on developing our character because we know rough days will come this year. First, when trouble comes,be ready to choose joy. Then when your faith is being tested, grow. Endure and allow yourself to grow.
Enjoy the clean slate, and get ready to be strong!
