It seems like there are several ideas about everything. The best car to buy is... The greatest book to read... The healthiest diet is... The correct way to parent... The most creative way to decorate... The happiest people... There are so many opinions about all of life. It can be exhausting, but it can be interesting to listen and learn from others. The real problem comes when we have strong convictions, and we run into someone who also has strong convictions. If two people have strong convictions, but different ideas it can cause trouble.

In Philippians 4 Paul says, "I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord." These are two women who had invested greatly in the church, but they couldn't agree so it was a huge problem! If they knew that we were going to read about their disagreement for thousands of years, I wonder if they would have just figured out a way to agree. If we knew the negative impact our opinions have, we might stop arguing too. Sometimes it's hard to see what's really important. These were great ladies who were leaders in the church, but they were blind to how their opinions were affecting the church.

I want to watch what I make a big deal. The saying "make matter what matters" puts life into perspective. I am praying that God will help me see what matters to Him.

  1. Thank you Tonia for your "Simple Thoughts". I really enjoy reading them. I find them very encouraging and look forward to the next one. They help me focus back on God when I feel so pulled in a million directions by life's problems or decisions.
    Blessings to you.
