Promises...promises. Do you ever make too many promises? It's easy to make promises you can't keep. We normally have good intentions, but we can't always deliver what we think. Last week, Clarice, my 15 year old, was away at camp, and I told her I would paint her room while she was gone. It sounded like a great idea. But when Thursday came, and I wasn't finished...I thought, I was going to let her down. I didn't want to break my promise. I did finish, but it was close. There are so many ways that we all let people down. We might not say "I promise", but we don't follow through or we disappoint. It's so easy to break our promises even when we have the best intentions.
We have probably all been hurt by someone. It might be a parent, a boss, a sister, or a great friend. Sometimes the hurts are easy to let go, and sometimes it's hard to trust because of our relationship disappointments. But God never will let us down; He will never disappoint. I love Psalm 9 because the Psalm is full of praise for God. In the midst of David praising God, he says, "Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." God always keeps His promises. Even when life hurts, and people fail us, God never does.
So when people break their promises, try to lean into God's promises. The promises that never fail. Next, see God as who He really is, and it helps us see ourselves and others in the right light.
