It's that time of the year where we never know what we should wear. Each day is so different. One day is hot, and the next day we need to put on a heavy coat. I have some kids who are just done with coats even if they are cold. In the spring you have to check the weather daily to see what you need to "put on" or put off".
"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." (Colossians 3:9,10) God has some "spring" put on and put off principles that really help life. So in these verses we are to put off the old self and all that goes with it, and we are to put on the new self which should look like Christ. In Ephesians 4 we are given some specifics of what we are to do. First, put off lying and put on speaking the truth. Next, put off stealing and work so you can put on giving. Lastly, put off unwholesome talk, and put on encouraging words.
Sometimes we look at what we should be doing, but we aren't sure how to change. God gives us a way to change. If we struggle with stealing, then we need to change by working so we can give. Giving stops the stealing. It's a great system for changing. So what do you need to put off? Find what God wants to change and put it on.
