I received a plant for Christmas, and I am trying really hard not to kill it! It has little blossoms on it today. I'm looking forward to seeing how it changes and grows. Water is pretty key to my plant thriving, and I am trying to remember to water it. Plants have a root system to help them live and grow...and we have roots too. There are some characteristics of those who follow Christ. We are to be growing, and we are to be thankful.
Colossians 2:6-7 says, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and over-flowing with thankfulness." We are to be rooted in Christ which means we are growing. We need to be reading, studying, and praying. 2 Peter 3:1 says, that God's Word is to "stimulate you to wholesome thinking". I love this verse. How do I grow? How am I rooted? Be in God's Word. It changes how we think which changes how we respond and act.
Another characteristic of a Christ follower is being thankful. Gushing thankfulness...overflowing with thankfulness. I don't know if I work on being thankful as much as I should. My husband gave a challenge in January to keep a thankful journal this year. I've been keeping one in my daily planner, and it has been great for me to see all the ways God has been blessing me and just for me to be amazed at God.
So we all need some watering and growing...be in God's Word. Be thankful. Be so thankful that you right it down.
