Whenever I start a new chart for chores or a new system for our family, my older kids ask me what I've been reading. They search the house for the magazine or book, and they love to tease me about the "new" system. But I must admit I do read anything I find about parenting because I need help. During one of those days where I was in need for parenting help, I started studying Proverbs. In the last four years I have read Proverbs many times. It is my favorite book of the Bible. The wisdom in Proverbs has changed my life.

Proverbs is all about wisdom. I am going to work through the book of Proverbs again because it helps me know how God wants me to live. So Proverbs 1 is our chapter for this week. This first chapter says exactly what we can expect. Proverbs 1:2,3 says, "The purpose of these proverbs is to teach people wisdom and discipline...Through these proverbs, people will receive instruction in discipline, good conduct, and doing what is right, just, and fair." We are going to learn how to think and act. Doesn't it seem like we are constantly making decisions? What to do with our time? How to respond? When and how should I spend my money? Should that friendship be over? We all need wisdom, but it's going to take work.

So do you need some wisdom? I know I do, and I'm looking forward to this journey through the book of Proverbs. James 3:17 says, "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere." Let's pray that our lives will be full of these characteristics.
