what do I know?

So do you ever find that there are “things” in your world that you hear about or talk about that you really don’t understand? Maybe you’ve kind-of watched a ton of football games, but you don’t know the rules. You couldn’t actually tell someone how to play. Just carry the football and make a touchdown. We sometimes don’t understand the stuff in our world.

In Acts 19:1-10 Paul talks to some disciples of John the Baptist who hadn’t heard the whole message. They had missed out on the message of Jesus, and they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit. “When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” So as I read these verses, I thought about how much do I truly know about the Holy Spirit. These were disciples of John the Baptist, but they didn’t really understand the whole message of salvation. They didn’t know the power awaiting them in the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes when we begin to study a topic, we realize how much we don’t know. I have started reading the book Forgotten God by Francis Chan. Since I started reading this book, whenever I come across verses about the Holy Spirit I stop and think about what I really know about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is eternal and holy. The Holy Spirit has His own mind, and He prays for us. The Spirit has emotions, and the Holy Spirit has His own desire and will. These statements are just a few statements that Francis Chan makes that I’ve been thinking about lately.

There is so much to learn about God; there is so much to learn about the Holy Spirit. I think, one of the amazing truths that I’ve been trying to take in is that the Holy Spirit prays for me. I had a friend text me today and say she was praying for me. I was so encouraged! I need to remember that the Holy Spirit prays for me…even though He doesn’t text me. He has me in mind.

So…this week. Stay in God’s Word. Keep getting to know God…don’t stop. We talk about Him, but there is so much for us to still learn.
